A talk with Naomi

Naomi Long Madgett sat down with Melba Joyce Boyd to speak about the events of her highly productive life…from her growing-up years in East Orange, NJ, to her tenure as Detroit’s Poet Laureate. So many events surround her poetic life: the friendships with Robert McFerrin, Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, Dudley Randall, Robert Hayden, Rosey Poole, Margaret Danner, Haki R. Madhubuti, Gwendolyn Brooks, Lucille Clifton, Toi Derricotte, Vievee Francis, Bill Harris, M.L Liebler, Melba Joyce Boyd, Herb Martin…and the list goes on and on and on. It’s no wonder that there are stories and interactions and intersections. And so we list some of them here.
There are several segments in this lengthy interview.
